Police Station Advice & Assistance

If you have been arrested by the police, you need to seek legal advice even if you think you have done nothing wrong.

The purpose of a police interview is to interview you under caution so that they can gather information from you that the police can use against you to bring about a prosecution. Without legal advice at the police station, you could end up incriminating yourself, admitting to offences you have not committed or providing information that could incriminate others.

If you ask for Sussex Defence Solicitors, you will receive expert advice when you need it most which is at the start of any police investigation. We will be able to obtain disclosure from the police and find out what evidence the police actually have which has led them to want to question you. We can advise you on what to do in your interview and will be present with you when you are interviewed. After the interview we can advise you on what the likely outcome is and most importantly if appropriate make representations that the police should take no further action against you.

If the police have contacted you to say they would like to speak to you voluntarily, then the above still applies, the police want to gather information to use against you by way of questioning you under caution. You should contact us as soon as the police have contacted you so that we can represent you at your interview.

You are entitled to free and independent legal advice at the police station which we can provide 24 hours a day. You will be asked by the police if you want a Solicitor and you just have to ask for Sussex Defence Solicitors. We have a number of police station representatives who will assist you under legal aid.  Our police station reps work for us and are accredited.
