Matthew Baines

Matthew is a founding Partner of Sussex Defence Solicitors.  He qualified as a Solicitor in 1997 and has over 25 years-experience of criminal defence work. Matthew has also only worked in Sussex and is well known and respected by the police, Crown Prosecution Service and Court officials.

Matthew is a Duty Solicitor and represents clients at the Police Station and the Magistrates Court as well as dealing with complex crown court cases.  He has built up a large own client following over the years, with client’s returning again and again mainly as a result of his excellent advocacy skills with not guilty verdicts and lenient sentences.  His particular areas of interest and expertise are assault cases on any level, harassment, stalking and road traffic including special reasons hearings to avoid disqualifications from driving. Matthew is very approachable and will make whatever situation you find yourself in much more bearable.
